On Monday we made Frozen Grasshopper squares in baking. Michal really used her muscles to crush the cookies and Eliana had fun spreading the chocolate. On Tuesday we made our own silly-putty in science. Adi and Justice had so much fun stretching and rolling the silly-putty into fun shapes. We also had music with Alisha; Gabe sang very loudly. On Wednesday we had Harry Potter day. We all had so much fun making wands and glasses. Collin looked very cute in his glasses and Macaria made a beautiful wand. On Thursday our trip to Bowcraft was cancelled, but we got to go to Funtime America! Elizabeth and Katie had so much fun going on all the rides and winning prizes. On Friday we had a great time in fun fitness. Dancing was a lot of fun too! Milo was the winner in Freeze dance. We can’t wait for out trip to Cheesequake on Monday!

We were all spellbound with Harry Potter Day. Our wands and glasses helped us all become some of the best wizards in the camp! We can’t wait until week 7 and the beach! Anna, Shoshana Bunk 2b This week everyone made a new friend, Joshua! We had an exciting week, with everyone improving their swimming- including Jacob and Miriam R. who are almost ready to graduate from their bubbles! Science

Science this week was “silly” fun! Silly putty was our theme of the week. Did you know that silly putty was invented by accident? In 1943 James Wright, an engineer at Gerenal Electric, dropped borin acid into silicone oil and silly putty was born! We learned about solids, liquids, and gases too! The campers were amazed that Silly Putty is a viscoelastic liquid and not a solid!

Each bunk also made their own silly putty using the following recipe:

  • Mix ½ cup of water with ½ cup white glue.
  • Mix and add 3 drops of food coloring or paint.
  • Then make a Borax solution by taking 2 tablespoons of Borax (powder laundry detergent can be found at Walmart) with 1 cup of water.
  • Be sure to dissolve the Borax in the water.
  • Add ½ cup of Borax solution to water and glue mixture and stir well.
  • The glue will come together to form a “solid like” material and then your silly putty is ready!

You can play with your silly putty and then store it in a plastic bag to keep longer.

Have a silly fun time!!!

Cooking Corner

This week we made Frozen Grasshopper Squares.

Here is the recipe:

  • 28 oreo cookies, crushed.
  • 1 container of mint chocolate chip ice cream, softened.
  • 1 tube cool whip topping Line 13 x 9 inch pan with foil.
  • Put the crushed cookies on bottom of pan.
  • Spread ice cream evenly over crumbs in pan.
  • Top with cool whip.
  • Put chocolate syrup on top with sprinkles.

Art Shed

The week the younger/middle division made suns! The older division worked with clay and molded and painted their own art work.

Have a great weekend!
