Dear Parents and Campers:
Aloha! We’ve had such an amazing seventh week of camp! We can’t believe the summer’s almost over. Monday was our trip to Cheesequake Park, and it couldn’t have come at a better time! It was so hot, but we stayed cool in the lake and under the shady trees. Wednesday was our annual YCD Carnival. What a fun time! We had so many fun booths and activities! We had a visit from a basketball camp in Highland Park, and we’re happy to share that our Bunk 7 boys were the champions in the game!! 19 to 12!! Way to go Bunk 7!! Thursday was Surfin’ Safari Day and we had a great time. We played with beach balls, played sports like crabs and even learned to hula!
Our cast of the Wizard of Oz has been practicing really hard! We can’t wait until Thursday to show off what we’ve done. The play will take place at 10:30am. Please join us!
Please remember to send in your Chai Lifeline Swim-A-Thon money, if you haven’t already.

Oh no! We only have one week of camp left! What a shame that this summer flew by so quickly. Cheesequake Park definitely made our week much cooler. Brendan and Sam built a huge sandcastle with Hannah while Joshua and Mateo splashed around in the lake. At cooking, Juliana was a great help to Morah Cindy. The carnival was a blast! Our lollipop tree was amazing and the entire camp loved winning lollipops! We limboed the day away on Surfin Safari Day and our campers were really good at it! We’re so sad that camp is almost over.

Art Shed
The younger division made animal critters. The older division finished their clay creations and started making bird feeders.
Cooking Corner
This week in cooking, we made Mini Chipwiches – Ice Cream Sandwiches. Here’s the recipe:
Place a scoop of ice cream on the bottom of a cookie. Gently press a second cookie on top of the ice cream. Roll the sides in sprinkles. Freeze for an hour. Eat and Enjoy!
For more variations, consider using M&M’s, chopped nuts, shaved chocolate, toasted coconut or crushed candy on the sides.

Have a great weekend!
Mad Science
The human body was our focus in science this week! The younger groups focused on taste and sound. We tasted lemon juice, tonic water, sugar and salt and labelled the tongue maps accordingly! Interestingly, everyone’s tongue map was unique. The younger groups also learned that vibrations make sound. They heard a cup and rubberband make a “mini guitar”. We also made our own horns!
The older division focused on hand-eye coordination and memory. We started doing experiments involving reaction time by catching a ruler that a friend dropped. Each camper got to do this 5 times. Many kids found that their 3rd or 4th catch was the best because of practice and quicker reaction time. We played with our brains; we read lists of words and numbers and the kids tried to memorize them. We found that the brain works best when memorizing chunks or organized information. It was also easier to memorize lists of concrete words, rather than abstract or made up words.
All of the campers had a great time doing experiments with their minds and bodies!
